Do you dream of your own chunky blanket, a pillow, or even a small plush toy, but when you hear words like "crochet hook" or "knitting needles," a question immediately pops into your mind: "is this even for me? can I do it?"

Don’t worry!
You don’t have to learn patterns, symbols, or even how to hold a crochet hook or knitting needles right away.
There’s a much simpler way to create beautiful, chunky projects — it’s finger knitting.

Finger knitting or crochet and knitting needles — which is easier?

Crochet and knitting needles

  • require learning how to hold the tools and manage stitches,
  • learning different stitches, half double crochet, yarn overs, slip stitches,
  • counting stitches and often reading patterns,
  • controlling many small details at once.

For beginners, this can often feel quite overwhelming at the start.

Finger knitting

  • you don’t need any tools — just your hands and yarn,
  • you don’t have to learn how to hold crochet hooks or needles,
  • you learn just one movement that you repeat throughout the whole blanket,
  • it’s very intuitive, and you see results much faster.

What’s easier for a beginner?

If you’re just starting with crafting and want to see a WOW effect quickly, finger knitting is definitely the easier choice.

  • You don’t need to know patterns or symbols.
  • You only focus on keeping your stitches even.
  • You can make a chunky blanket in 2–3 hours, while a similar project with needles or a hook could take many more hours.

But that doesn’t mean crochet or knitting needles are bad!

Each technique has its own advantages and offers different possibilities.
With crochet or knitting, you can create more delicate, lacy patterns, sweaters, or hats.
But if your dream is a soft, chunky blanket made in just a few hours, finger knitting is simply the easiest and fastest way.

In the photos below, you can see a blanket measuring approx. 75 x 150 cm, which I made using the finger knitting method.

I used:

    • 4 skeins of chenille yarn in color no. 19

    • and stripe accents in colors no. 9, 10, and 35.

This mix instantly makes the blanket look modern and unique, and each piece is one of a kind.

How to calculate the yarn length for stripes in a blanket?

Follow a simple rule:

  • you need about 3 times the width of the blanket in the additional color.

For example, if your blanket is 75 cm wide, you’ll need about 225 cm (= 2.25 m) of yarn in a contrasting color for one layer of stripes.
If you want to add more, simply multiply this length by the number of stripes.

Remember: this value also depends on stitch size and how tightly you knit.

Not sure how to join two skeins of yarn?

This is a common question at the beginning: how to make the join strong and invisible so the blanket still looks perfect?

Don’t worry!
I’ve prepared a short video for you where I show exactly how to join two skeins of chenille yarn.

Or maybe you’d like to start with something smaller?

If you’d prefer to try a less time-consuming project than a blanket, start with something smaller — for example, plush toys.

That’s why I’ve prepared DIY kits for you, so you can create something special in just a few hours.
It’s the perfect way to discover how enjoyable finger knitting can be.

Here are 3 example plush toys you can make with my kits:

In summary – what should you choose to start?

  • If you dream of a quick, chunky blanket and want to see results in 2–3 hours, start with finger knitting.
  • If you’re patient and dream of delicate patterns, you can try knitting needles or crochet later.

Then sit back with a cup of tea and enjoy creating something beautiful with your own hands.
