Let's start with one fact: I love hand weaving. I believe that across the spectrum of what we call handicrafts, finger knitting is one of the most interesting forms of creation. That is why I am so eager to share my passion online and so often encourage you to try it. However, if you still have doubts and don't know if this is definitely the right activity for you, here are 6 reasons why it's worth finger knitting.
6 benefits finger knitting will give you – table of contents
- Knit yourself some relaxation
- Your mental health will thank you
- Watch your self-esteem grow!
- Get carried away by the knitting community
- Ecological solutions at your fingertips
- Unleash your creativity while knitting
1. Knit yourself some relaxation
The first thing I associate with hand weaving is rest and the peace enchanted in repetitive movements. It can be a form of meditation that allows you to focus your attention on one activity, and also helps in reducing stress and tension. However, you can approach it in a more relaxed way – after all, it's supposed to be something pleasant, and each of us is different. If you prefer this approach, choose your favorite TV series and simply spend a nice time with it and your yarn.
It's important to allow yourself a moment of respite and a passion that takes your mind off worries. In today's world, we live in a constant rush, so it's worth having something that allows us to slow down. However, you must know that finger knitting is not only a simple source of relaxation, but also support for our mental well-being...

2. Your mental health will thank you
Stress, stress, and more stress. Sounds familiar, right? According to research conducted by the Gallup Institute, in Poland in 2022, as many as 37% of respondents experienced high stress at work. Sometimes we can't cope with the omnipresent tension, and everything seems too overwhelming. This is where finger weaving comes to the rescue, allowing us to calm the mind. But that's not all – knitting has an even stronger impact on our mental health...
It has been shown that repetitive activities (and handicrafts are among them) release serotonin, a natural substance used in fighting depression. Interestingly, Yonas Geda (associate professor of neurology and psychiatry) published a study as early as 2011 showing that engaging the mind through manual work (as well as reading books or playing games) reduces the occurrence of mild cognitive impairment that can precede dementia. This is mainly about the fact of constant stimulation and exercising the mind, which, as it turns out, has a beneficial effect on our health. So remember that finger weaving is also a form of self-care!

3. Watch your self-esteem grow!
Do you know that feeling of pride that appears after you've done something correctly? It makes us feel productive, needed, and sometimes even as if we could move mountains. Such feelings also appear with finger weaving, especially after finishing our work. And do you know what intensifies them? Seeing the object you hand-knitted yourself every day – that's true personal fulfillment. Surround yourself with beautiful objects made by you and look at them every time you doubt yourself.
Let's look at it from the other side. You've probably received some praise in the past. If so, you probably know what a boost to action a few kind words can give. So don't hesitate and show your loved ones what wonders you can create. If they didn't know about your hobby before, they'll probably be shocked when they see what you can knit. And their words can give you a lot of joy and will to work!

4. Get carried away by the knitting community
It's great to have friends who have the same hobby as we do. In this case, there are plenty of options to meet them: local knitting meetings, textile fairs, as well as online forums or groups. Drawing mutual inspiration, exchanging advice, and showing off finished projects – these are examples of beautiful interactions between people who share a common passion.

Finger weaving can also be the beginning of a beautiful intergenerational interaction. Handicrafts used to be more common, practiced by our mothers and grandmothers. Now we can feel a special bond with them, and even share tips and project ideas. At the same time, we have the opportunity to show older generations innovative ways of knitting, such as hand weaving. Who knows, maybe we'll inspire someone else?

5. Ecological solutions at your fingertips
Another advantage is the fact that finger knitting is an ecological solution. For example – chunky chenille yarn can be woven and unwoven many times. Thanks to this, a beginner can learn hand weaving without wasting materials. And if something doesn't work out, you can unravel a piece (and sometimes the whole thing) and do it again. Behind this lies another benefit – the things we knit are maximally practical because we can constantly modify and adapt them to our needs. Convenient, right?

6. Unleash your creativity while knitting
By finger knitting, you can create various projects – from simple elements to more advanced ones. Let your imagination run wild and take action. Remember that the ability to finger knit also gives you the opportunity to create unique gifts that show how much heart you put into what you do.
But how to unleash creativity if you are just starting hand weaving? There's nothing to be afraid of – it's not as difficult as crocheting or knitting with needles, and with my help, you'll quickly become proficient in this art. Once you master the basics, you'll be able to let your creativity take over and start creating wonders.

Hand weaving also brings other benefits, such as improving manual skills or precision. Remember, however, that the greatest advantage of finger knitting is the joy you can feel while doing it.
